Welcome to Buckhorn Middle School! We are thrilled that your student will be here for the next 2 years. At BMS, all students can learn and will have opportunities to demonstrate what they learn as we assist in preparing them for the future. BMS will prepare and assist in the transition from elementary to secondary school.  Buckhorn Middle was created with this fact in mind and with the goal of equipping students with tools and know-how to enjoy a successful high school career.

Buckhorn Middle School is located in the rural community of New Market, Alabama, approximately twenty miles north of Huntsville. Home to Redstone Arsenal and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville holds the highest percentage of engineers in the country and was named The Nation's Best City in 2009. With its primary industries in Aerospace and Defense, the city boasts 12 research and industrial parks. The most notable of these is Cummings Research Park. The third largest research park in the world, it is home to such companies as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, and the Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology.

The population of New Market is estimated at 1,864 residents with school enrollment at approximately 660 students. The ethnic composition of the student body is 66% White, 20% Black/African American, 10% American Indian/Alaskan Native, 4% other. Thirty-eight percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

Buckhorn Middle School, which serves grades seven and eight, was established in 2010. The school was built on the same campus as Buckhorn High School, a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Our feeder schools are New Market School, which serves Pre-K - 6th grade, and Riverton Intermediate School, which serves 4th - 6th grade. There are 35 certified teachers on staff along with 3 administrators, 2 counselors, 1 media specialist, and 1 instructional partner. BMS actively partners with ARI, AMSTI, and NMSI; it is also a Partnership school through the Alabama Best Practices Center.
